Environmental aspects

On an annual basis we take stock of and report on our environmental impacts with regard to raw materials, chemicals, energy, emissions, transportation and much more besides. Read the report below on our key achievements and measures.

Energy consumption

Swegon’s Swedish production plants have continuously implemented energy-efficiency measures and reduced their space heating requirements. We ceased using fossil fuels many years ago, and all space heating at our facilities comes from renewables. By continually striving for smart manufacturing solutions for high productivity, effective ventilation and energy-efficient lighting, our electricity consumption has been reduced continuously.

Since 2015, Swegon AB has purchased guarantee of origin (GoO) hydropower-generated electricity, and has thereby achieved zero fossil-fuel carbon emissions. This amounts to an annual reduction of more than 3,000 tonnes of fossil-based CO2.

Chemicals

At our Swedish manufacturing plants, the online chemicals inventory system EcoOnline is used for handling additive chemicals and their risk analyses.

For chemicals present in our products, we require declarations of content when sourcing chemicals from our suppliers. This is necessary in order for us to be able to compile a comprehensive construction product declaration (BVD3) for every single Swegon product.

Energy efficiency in our products

By means of product development and enhancements for constituent energy-performance components, Swegon products help to reduce lifecycle costs for our customers.

The lifecycle impact assessment according to Eco-indicator 99 reveals that in the very first year of operation, products/systems supplied by Swegon deliver an energy saving that exceeds the total environmental load of their manufacture.

Raw materials

The raw material with the highest environmental load is metal, but by using the correct format of sheet/coils and optimising the technical procedures in our metal working, we maximise our materials economy. The metals we purchase consist on average of 20-25% recycled material. Any higher than that is not feasible at present due to the scarcity of such material.

Waste

Within manufacturing and administration, all waste fractions are sorted and recovered/recycled by specialist contractors.
